MASKS IN THE AGE OF COVID19
To wear masks or to not wear masks. That is the question, but what is the answer. At the beginning of this pandemic, there was a debate as to whether or not you should wear a mask. I am an avid reader and watcher of the news and current affairs, and the decision is in YES! The wearing of masks is another tool in the battle against the spread of the coronavirus. Countries and vicinities where the wearing of masks has been mandated have seen a dramatic decrease in the spread of Covid19.
Therefore, darlings, I've now decided that I will wear a mask whenever I leave my home, partially for me and my family's protection and partially as a commitment to my community. However, being the fashion lover that I am I have to find masks that I can wear and still maintain my style profile. They need to be bright and fashionable and fun and stylish. So what to do? Since I am also a member of the local fashion community, I searched for local fashion brands that were producing masks that I loved. I'm so happy to show you the masks from 3 fashion labels whose masks I love and will wear!
FUN PHOTO'S OF FASHIONABLE MASKS
AY LELUM
First up is a fashion brand that is truly a B.C. original. Ay Lelum The Good House of Design produced by sisters Aunalee Boyd-Good and Sophia Good. The sisters, inspired by the rich culture of the Coast Salish, work in an extraordinarily talented family collective. They feature and work with their brother Joel Good, carver and artist and their Father, William Good master carver, artist and historian, to incorporate traditional family designs into their line of wearable art. Furthermore, this is all performed under the watchful eye and guiding hand of their mother, artist, and designer, Sandra Moorhouse-Good.
I have seen several fashion shows by Ay Lelum ( latest review) and am a lover of their visionary incorporation of first nations art in modern and sophisticated fashion .The fashion from Ay Lelum has something for everyone. Offering a wide range of styles and designs these original creations are quality pieces that will certainly have longevity in your wardrobe. My mantra of developing a personal style and a wardrobe of distinctive pieces is right inline with adding some Ay Lelum garments to your closet.
WEAR MASKS
As well as the masks shown, they have several other designs available. Please visit the Ay Lelum website to check out their entire S/S 2020 line.
During the difficult times of this pandemic it has been especially hard for independent fashion labels to showcase their work. Therefore, I encourage all my followers to support smaller local fashion brands. While we may not be able to attend fashion shows or showcases during these times we can visit independent designers on line, make purchases and share their social media posts.
ATELIER GRANDI
The second brand who's masks have caught my eye is Atelier Grandi. This label is self-proclaimed as " an expression for the bold, sophisticated woman", and I couldn't agree more. I was first introduced to Grandy Chu and her distinct sophisticated brand at Vancouver Fashion Week in the spring of 2019 and since that time I have been an avid fan. Grandi's collection, ESSENTIAL COLOURS, and other recent collections show the brands refined relationship to colour, cut, and silhouette. In the same way, Grandi gave us colourful party clothes with a sense of fun. They have created a line of masks with the same vibe.
The masks seem to be pulled from a Pop Art exhibit featuring a series of lips on black and coloured backgrounds. They are both fashionable and fun. Therefore, when looking for an amusing way to add style to your Covid19 wardrobe, you need to look no further than these delightful masks. Perhaps a selection of colours to match your mood and your attire.
SAFE + STYLISH
Visit Atelier Grandi to shop their wide selection of masks and their fabulous fashions. Atelier Grandi also offers a couture design service, so treat yourself to a custom design that is made to last.

ASH + GROVE
The third brand I've selected is Ash+Grove. Sustainable fashion is the mandate of Ash + Grove, and this zero-waste fashion brand is youthful and exciting. Asha Singh is the designer behind this label and her skills and vision are creating a label that is up and coming. From our first connection we have become reliable supports for each other's work on both Facebook and Instagram. It is surprising how friendships can form online, but that's just what is happening. Because of the lack of direct contact during the pandemic, creative people are using their ingenuity to connect.
Ash+Grove is doing just that connecting with their clients. With an excellent Instagram feed Asha shows us her hip street-wear styles, and a large selection of fun and fashionable face masks. See three of the great masks here.
MASKS
I had fun working with my partner Angelo on the photos presented . I love presenting these fabulous masks here. Certainly my main point of showing these masks and highlighting the 3 chosen designer brands is to promote safety in the community and help promote the local fashion scene. Buy masks, wear masks and be safe, we may have managed to lessen the curve, but we have a long road ahead of us.
