FASHION BOOK WEDNESDAYS; The Little Dictionary of Fashion by Christian Dior

FASHION BOOK WEDNESDAYS

Darlings, I love books, especially fashion books. This post and the following Wednesday's posts will each present an important fashion book. I encourage all fashion lovers to collect fashion books and use them as references. The books I list are all books I have read, and I hope you will read them too.

FASHION BOOK WEDNESDAYS

I am a student of fashion. What do I mean by that? While I am not a student enrolled in a school, I am on a lifelong journey to learn as much about fashion as I can. Students of fashion, fashionistas and the fashion industry are all on a similar journey. For many, fashion is not considered the most intellectual pursuit. Those who are true fashion enthusiasts know that fashion is much more than looking at pretty dresses.

Fashion history is a record of the people who went before us. The people we were, the people we are, and the people we will become are all reflected in the clothes we wear. We learn about fashion from multiple sources; fashion books, magazines, blogs, tv shows, and fashion movies.

From the multiple sources I have named fashion books are the best way to learn about iconic fashion designers, the history and evolution of clothing, and the creation of fashion trends. Moreover, fashion books will give you insights into the workings of the fashion industry. Whether you are a fashion historian, fashion designer, fashion journalist, or fill the many other roles in the fashion industry, fashion books will give you a road map to the amazing pursuit of fashion as a career or as a fashionista.

The Little Dictionary of Fashion

by Christian Dior

The House of Dior , is one of the most prestigious of all the great Paris fashion houses. Christian Dior was defined by his ability to create beautiful, sophisticated fashion. Dior attracted attention with the overt use of fabric, bustier-style bodices, wasp waists, and curvaceous silhouettes. Crowned creator of the ‘New Look, Dior was heralded as an overnight sensation.

The Little Dictionary of Fashion is your guide on how to be chic, as written by the man himself: Christian Dior. From how to walk with grace to how to tie a scarf perfectly, Dior's words of advice are both witty and timeless. He covers each term used in fashion in a delightful and informative way. For fashion students and designers interested in capturing the essence of the past, of elegance and sophistication, this book is an invaluable asset. If you are a designer wanting inspiration from a great couturier this book gives insights into designing and construction. While this book was originally published in 1954 and in some elements is dated, it is also fresh and knowledgeable.

This book is an addition to any fashion lover's library because you will reference it time and time again. A perfect gift for anyone interested in fashion.
