Elegant Curiosities showed it's collection on the 2nd night of VFW. Elegant Curiosities was founded in 2013 by the Dutch designer Laila Verseput. The brand incorporates jewelry and clothing to create its pieces. Unfortunately, the designer was unable to join us for Vancouver Fashion Week due to poor health. Elegant Curiosities would like to thank Jamal Abdourahman and his team at Vancouver Fashion week for staging the show. Elegant Curiosities has an exceptional website that gives insight into the designer's ideas and her latest collection.
The pieces are designed for anyone who wants to express their femininity, people who want to stand out in something luxurious, unique and exclusive. Every piece of clothing is also a piece of jewellery. Just a few examples of what you can find in her designs: historical remnants, 24k hand gilded and silver-plated details, gemstones, freshwater pearls, sterling silver and 14k gold. All to give you the feeling that you are not just wearing a piece of clothing, but a jewel with its own story and inspiration.

ELEGANT CURIOSITIES- THE REVIEW
Elegant Curiosities sent an all black collection down the runway. In my opinion, an all black collection is a difficult thing to pull off. Certainly this was not the first time a designer used black exclusively; ever since Chanel transformed black from mourning attire to a fashion color in the 1920's, designers have relished in using black. In this case the designer skillfully used black to take us into a world of bold visually stimulating vignettes.
The designer set out to treat black as a color, using lace, embroidery, sequin and chiffon to add texture and variety. The clothing was amalgamated with a wide variety of jewelry, the marriage of pearls, chains, and filigree gold brooches formed the garments. Intricate head pieces, chokers, and body jewelry rounded out this vintage inspired visual feast.
From my first row seat, it was as if I was watching a funeral staged by Fellini. The audience was transfixed on the elegant garments, imbued with sexuality. A dominatrix leads a feminine man on a leash in an exploration of dominance and gender fluidity. Laila Verseput put out a gender-fluid collection exploring femininity and masculinity.
A standout look is a bodysuit covered in pearls with a headdress, reminiscent of a showgirl. The looks have varied silhouettes and are accompanied by accessories, like satin gloves, and intricate headpieces.

IN CONCLUSION
The vision of the first model set the tone for this sophisticated, luxurious collection. This all-black collection was very impactful. For any lovers of this collection, I encourage you to visit the designer's website. The website gives detailed descriptions of the outfits and tells stories of their inspiration. The combination of history with a contemporary flare makes this collection a personal favorite. I can't wait to see where Elegant Curiosities will take us next.
