EDUARDO RAMOS AT VANCOUVER FASHION WEEK F/W 24

EDUARDO RAMOS AT VANCOUVER FASHION WEEK F/W 24

Eduardo Ramos, a name that resonates with the rhythmic pulse of fashion, presented his collection on April 28th, , during the Fall/Winter 2024 season of Vancouver Fashion Week. Born in the colorful vitality of Mexico City, Ramos's fashion journey began amidst his family's entrepreneurial spirit. His path led him to Vancouver, where he pursued a Fashion Design Diploma, and eventually, to the runway of Vancouver Fashion Week and the world fashion capitals of New York, London, Paris, and Milan.

A REVIEW

As the lights dimmed and the first model gracefully glided onto the runway, the audience at Vancouver Fashion Week was instantly captivated by Eduardo Ramos's enchanting world. His latest collection, Ephemera, is a breathtaking fusion of fabric and form, meticulously crafted to embody exquisite moments of the cycle of life.

I have covered four collections by Eduardo Ramos, and this is the best yet. In conversation with Eduardo before his collection was shown in New York last February, he told me of some of his inspirations for " Ephemera."   " When I was growing up, my mother grew orchids. They were so delicate, beautiful, and a perfect reflection of nature. I want to catch some of that organic beauty in this collection. Flowers like us are temporary, here and then gone". Recalling the conversation, Ramos also said that, for the first time, he was going to venture into menswear; this piqued my interest. Ramos's previous collections were sensual, elegant, and sophisticated. I was excited to see how these elements would translate to menswear.

Ramos is a storyteller; he is precise, deliberate, and a perfectionist. "I always want to get things perfect and will work on them until I do." Whether perfection was the goal , near perfection was the result. The story that is a returning theme in Ramos's work is one of human mortality, the fleeting passing of our lives, and this collection added another chapter to his narrative.

The mainly black-and-white collection includes a creamy off-white and the surprise presence of a deep, luscious aubergine, a purple shade that appears in nature in eggplants and orchids. Ramos has worked in the past with tailoring. Here, his tailored jackets have hard lines with large shoulders, some with detailed lace sleeves. The silhouettes are long and lean with clean, precise edges.

The first look, a boxy cropped jacket similar to the Bolero jackets of Spain and Mexico with lace sleeves and a full, maxi-length black guipure skirt, introduces the lace that appears throughout the collection. Ornate workmanship, rich, lush fabrics, and delicate details define these clothes. The designer continues to expand his repertoire with men's formal wear. A men's ivory tux-style suit has detailed lace appliqued lapels. The trousers are graceful and full, and the back is closed with trailing ribbons. Ramos brings his signature elegance to the menswear pieces. The orchid is a flower that contains both the masculine and the feminine in one, and the designer skillfully blends these elements with traditionally feminine details like lace and beading in menswear. At the same time, he adds harder, more masculine tailoring to womenswear.

A satin knee-length cocktail dress with a bodice sculpted to form a 3-D orchid screams sophistication.  Further elements are evening trousers with boudoir-ish lace bustiers. The men's black satin and lace suit was a piece that had the sensuality I expect from Ramos, replete with a keyhole cutout in the back. The designer pulled out his couture know-how for the final two gowns of the collection. The first was black with see-through bias cut tulle and a mermaid hem, an ode to edgy glamour . To close the show, an aubergine satin gown, the only color except black and white, makes a bold statement with oversized ruffles and a silhouette cut to hug the body. The sleek lines and ruffles accentuate shapes inspired by nature.

The limited collection could only leave me wanting more. It was concise, artistic and had exceptional presence. Eduardo Ramos returns with each collection to the empowerment of women through strong and glamourous creations.  Much like the orchid, delicate and nurtured, Ramos crafted a collection that had an organic beauty in its graceful elegance.

IN CONCLUSION

To close out the show Eduardo Ramos presented dancer Sidney Chuckas , this amazingly talented man brought the evening and Vancouver Fashion Week F/W24 to a brillant end.
