VANCOUVER FASHION WEEK WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW FOR AN EXCITING TIME

VANCOUVER FASHION WEEK F/W 2019

Vancouver fashion week  starts with a Gala on Monday March 18th .While I write often about the luxury fashion world of Gucci and Dolce & Gabbana , I also love to support youngup coming designers. Therefore my darling's I am attending Vancouver Fashion Week this year and intend to cover it here .

Vancouver Fashion Week Fall/Winter 19 is set for an exciting season at the David Lam Hall in downtown Vancouver.  You can see the full designer line up on the official VFW F/W19 Schedule. Go to www.vanfashionweek.com/schedule/ to plan your perfect week of shows for March 18th-24th.

VANCOUVER AND IT'S STYLE

Since many of you may not be familiar with Vancouver , here is a brief description . Certainly I am well aware of the reputation Vancouver has as one of the most beautiful cities on the globe . In fact the cities natural beauty and it's penchant for outdoor activities add to it's relaxed feel .  Furthermore Vancouver is the gateway to Asia and a large Asian community adds much to the cities diversity.

Since Vancouver is the birthplace of Lululemon, Vancouver is a city where “athleisure” rules.  Therefore Vancouver is renowned more for its crunchy, outdoorsy lifestyle than for its flair. Stereotypes? Sure, but these things do typically exist for a reason.

However with a homegrown fashion scene, stylish shopping and restaurants, Vancouver makes for a surprisingly chic getaway.  Certainly one that’s low on pretense and high on the laid-back sense of chill for which Canada’s West Coast is known.

WHAT I'M EXCITED TO SEE AT VANCOUVER FASHION WEEK

Certainly I am really looking forward to Vancouver Fashion Week . Since I have a media pass I will be able attend any of the 7 nights. However if you have to purchase tickets you may want a suggestion for what nights to attend . Therefore my dears I have done the home work for you . In my opinion if you are a visitor or resident you probably want to see Vancouver designers first . Furthermore I personally don't know any of these designers, however I'm hoping to change that. I have visited their sites and done some research. Therefore I have the following suggestions.

Vancouver Fashion Week

Suggestion

  1

My first pick for nights to attend is the Wednesday night, because it  features an entire line-up of Canadian designers . Moreover Wednesday will be a night to highlight the local talents from Vancouver and Canada as a whole. An array of Canadian brands including locals Jae Esmane (BC), Blood Moon (BC), SOOJINU (BC) are in the mix. Also a couple  from further afield such as Nöelziñia (ON), and yung_alexander (ON).(Taken from VFC Press release)

While doing my research Soojin Woo really stood out as a designer I'm excited to see . She is based here in Vancouver. Her design aesthetic  specializes  in the fusion of modern western and traditional eastern style. I hope to be able to interview Soojin Woo. Website: www.soojinu.com

My second choice is Friday. Here the  shows take us into the weekend with experimental unisex, urban streetwear from Ization Studio (BC). and beautiful designs inspired by Canada’s Coast Salish peoples from Ay Lelum-The Good House of Design (BC). Emelia's Swimwear (BC), a high-quality, comfortable and stylish collection will be followed by Chen Pin-Yu’s (Taiwan) debut. HAMON (Japan) will close the night with their thoughtfully designed, recycled collection that is inspired by the universal, human theme of transformation and reincarnation.(Taken from VFC Press release)

If you are not familiar with British Columbia ,we are home to the Coast Salish people . Their beautiful artwork is seen on traditional totem poles and many other objects. However the Ay Lelum-The Good House of  Design takes the beautiful traditional art and makes amazing dresses . I love these gorgeous creations and hope you do too. In fact I encourage you to visit their website and place an order for a unique dress.

On Saturday first to hit the runway will be a line of experimental designs by BC local Ryan Li followed by Notre Décès (ON), an avant-garde collection. Eco Chic Design Award winner, PAT GUZIK (Poland) will proceed US designer Jessture’s collection of casual womenswear. Evan Clayton (BC) is set to stun with his theatrical collection while margot (Japan) will do away with limitations through a collection of one-size, free-flowing dresses. Finally, Sunny’s Bridal Gallery (BC) will be showcasing their latest collection of contemporary and traditional South Asian bridal and eveningwear to end the inspirational evening. (Taken from VFC Press release)

Darlings my schedule must include EVAN CLAYTON who shows on Saturdaty night at 8:00 pm . Here is an exciting Vancouver based brand that is ideal for the fashion-conscious woman. Furthermore I've seen this high quality and artistic brand and am very enthusiastic for their exciting future.

Sunday’s lineup kicks off with the scandalous, hyper-sexualized designs of Haus of Zuk (BC) which contrasts against Blossom Sunday’s (France) romantic and whimsical collection. C'EST D’s (US) playful and size-inclusive lineup, Carmen Llaguno’s (Mexico) spiritually inspired pieces and Arlo’s luxury Australian womenswear will celebrate the many facets of stylish femininity. Jessica Chang Studio’s (US) hand-dyed designs will proceed BC local Alex S. Yu’s exploration of childhood, nostalgia and wanderlust in a modern and quirky way; a fitting and illustrative end to Vancouver Fall / Winter Fashion Week 2019. (Taken from VFC Press release)

Here I'm excited to see Peter Zuk designer for the Haus of Zuk . Taking a more whimsical approach with his designs, he’s reached back to his past in the cosplay community and love of video game culture. Creating fastasy-esque creations, that always retain a child-like characteristic. With his love of night life, and entertainment, he draws a heavy amount of inspiration from Drag Queens and entertainers alike. I promise a review of this exciting  brand.
