VALENTINE’S DAY OUTFITS THAT ARE CHARMING AND DARING

VALENTINE'DAHISTORY

Valentine's Day is a bit of a made up holiday. Each year on February 14th, many people exchange cards, candy, gifts, flowers and dates with their special valentine. But where did it come from? Furthermore what do you wear? Darling's always my first concern.

However the day we call Valentine’s Day is named for a Christian martyr and dates back to the 5th century. From Feb. 13 to 15, the Romans celebrated the feast of Lupercalia. The men sacrificed a goat and a dog, then whipped women with the hides of the animals they had just slain.  Young women would actually line up for the men to hit them. They believed this would make them fertile.

The brutal fair included a matchmaking lottery, in which young men drew the names of women from a jar. An ancient version of Match. com. Furthermore this was all done naked. The couple would then be, um, coupled up for the duration of the festival — or longer, if the match was right.

VALENTINE'S DAY MOVES FORWARD

The ancient Romans may also be responsible for the name of our modern day of love. Emperor Claudius II executed two men — both named Valentine — on Feb. 14 of different years in the 3rd century A.D. Their martyrdom was honored by the Catholic Church with the celebration of St. Valentine's Day.

Later, Pope Gelasius I muddled things in the 5th century by combining St. Valentine's Day with Lupercalia. Particularly done to expel the pagan rituals. But the festival was more of a theatrical interpretation of what it had once been.It was a little more of a drunken revel. But the Christians put their clothes back on . That didn't stop it from being a day of fertility and love.

Around the same time, the Normans celebrated Galatin's Day. Galatin meant "lover of women." That was likely confused with St. Valentine's Day at some point, in part because they sound alike.

VALENTINE'DASHAKESPEARE IN LOVE

As the years went on, the holiday grew sweeter. Chaucer and Shakespeare romanticized it in their work, and it gained popularity throughout Britain and the rest of Europe. Handmade paper cards became the tokens-du-jour in the Middle Ages.

Eventually, the tradition made its way to the New World. The industrial revolution ushered in factory-made cards in the 19th century. And in 1913, Hallmark Cards of Kansas City, Mo., began mass producing valentines. February has not been the same since.

VALENTINE'DAY OUTFITS

Darling's it may come as a bit of surprise but I do like to pass on what I know and love. With this in mind I may have been a little long winded on the history. Since Valentine's is the perfect opportunity to give your love life a boost it may start with what you wear. While I don't want to appear cliche' ,it works. Moreover it will work better than being beaten with an animal hide.

Dressing up is for no one but yourself , this will make you feel great. Therefore when you feel great you put across your best self. Whether going on a romantic date with your partner , a second date with a new boo, or just drinks with the girls always look your best.Wear that red and pink that we all think of Valentine's Day colors. With this in mind I've found some great looks that may just set his or her heart a flutter.
