PROTEST AT THE GOLDEN GLOBES
The Golden Globe Awards 2018, were hosted by Seth Meyers at the Beverly Hilton on Sunday, January 7. Since I'm a huge fan of the Red Carpet I always tune into the awards shows . However this year is a little different for those of us who love the traditional Red Carpet. Hence the Golden Globes were being used to make a political statement the TIME'S UP movement.
This campaign, was founded on New Year’s Day. It saw Eva Longoria, Reese Witherspoon, Shonda Rhimes and hundreds of other women in entertainment sign an impassioned open letter. Hence they speak out against sexual harassment, assault and inequality across all industries.
“This is not a moment, it’s a movement,” Longoria, Witherspoon’s date for the evening, said on the red carpet. “Tonight is just one small part of that.”
Time’s Up has since raised more than $16 million for a legal defense fund. Therefore people who have experienced workplace harassment can have access to funds. Prior to the Golden Globes, the movement encouraged attendees and viewers alike to to wear black as a symbol of solidarity.
THE GOLDEN GLOBES WEAR BLACK
In my opinion darlings the call to wear black on the Golden Globes red carpet did not detract form the glamour of the event. Since I love glamour as much as any one I harbored a little trepidation about an all black dress affair. Therefore I have selected an array of gowns to illustrate black is glamourous.
THE GOLDEN GLOBES; BLACK DRESSES, SILHOUETTES AND DETAILS
Thanks to bold details, beautiful silhouettes, and eye-catching finishes the Golden Globes red carpet was worth the admission. Since black is often under played for glamorous looks it is great to see such a wide variety of stunning black gowns. While I have written before about the LBD , what makes one black dress or gown standout from the other.
As has been noted black often is about having bold details that make it stand out . Therefore these details may be pockets , who doesn't love pockets. Equally important is the length of the dress , too short a dress may limit it's versatility. Similarly details like pleats , buttons, bows and a variety of appliques and embellishment make a black dress standout.
In my opinion the silhouette is what makes the difference in all dresses. As a matter fact black often let's us see the silhouette clearly. As can be seen below these strong silhouettes are what is the style of the dress.
As shown above these charts show most options you have when selecting a dress. Therefore whether you are a fashion lover, a fashion blogger or a shopper knowing silhouettes is key to knowing fashion. Let me show you some of the most popular silhouettes you will encounter.
GOLDEN GLOBES; DRESS SILHOUETTES
GOLDEN GLOBES ; A LINE
A-line is the holy grail for every body shape. A-line skirts or dresses are fitted at your natural waist and gradually widen towards the hem to create a triangular shape that fans out slightly. This flattering shape pulls double duty: it draws the eyes to the waist for pear(larger on bottom) and heart shapes(larger on top), which de-emphasizes the hips and it also adds the appearance of curves for those with boyish or boxy body-types.
GOLDEN GLOBES; TRAPEZE
A trapeze dress has a triangular shape as well, but instead of starting at your waist, the silhouette begins at your shoulders and flairs out over your form. It has an easy, breezy, almost tent-like look and feel. This silhouette is best for long, lean, and somewhat boxy body shapes as you won't drown in all the fabric and shapelessness, but rather the dress will hang and flow beautifully.
GOLDEN GLOBES; SHEATH DRESS
A sheath dress is form-fitting and shaped by darts. (Darts are a V-shaped tuck used to help shape the fabric of a garment to the contours of the body, most commonly seen over the bust area.) Sheath dresses look best on those with hourglass shapes or heart shapes as the slightly more form-fitting silhouette highlights your proportions.
GOLDEN GLOBES; SHIFT DRESS
A shift dress simply falls straight down from your shoulders, meaning it's a bit more flow-y over your hips and waist. Shift dresses look best on those with a column or straight, boxy shape, who can more easily pull off a looser fit without looking like they're drowning.
GOLDEN GLOBES: EMPIRE DRESS
An empire dress has a high waistline located just under the bust line, and the rest of the dress flows out. Empire waist dresses look best on those with pear shapes, as it marks the smallest point of your figure and distracts from everything else. For those with boxy, straight shapes, an empire silhouette adds more curves.
GOLDEN GLOBES; WRAP DRESS
A wrap dress is another universal winner for every woman. It has a front closure formed by wrapping one side across the other, and knotting the attached ties that wrap around the back at the waist or fastening buttons. This forms a V-shaped neckline and hugs a woman's curves. Perfect for hourglass, heart, pear, and boxy shapes!
