SPOTLIGHT ON ITALIAN FASHION DESIGN AT VANCOUVER FASHION WEEK

ITALIAN FASHION DESIGN AT VANCOUVER FASHION WEEK

Tuesday October 8th was an exciting night for and at Vancouver Fashion Week as we saw Italian Fashion Design on the runway. The evening started with the welcoming of the  Consulate General of Italy in Vancouver. Certainly, Italian design is celebrated around the globe, and a partnership that brings young Italian designers to VFW is very exciting.

The Consul General, Fabio Messineo, addressed the audience in a speech where he lauded the accomplishments of the Italian fashion industry. In a moment of revelry he went on to name the amazing designers who have made Italian design the greatest in the world. He also expressed the strong relationship that Canada and Italy share and sharing of culture and design. Certainly, again I look towards the diversity of Vancouver Fashion  Week and say Bravo !

ITALIAN FASHION DESIGN

3 DESIGNERS

. Certainly, I love Italian fashion design and like many love most things Italian. In fact my partner is Italian Canadian and we have strong ties to Italian culture. Therefore, I was excited to see three Italian designers presenting their talents. .

EVARO ITALIA

Eva Rorandelli is an Italian American artist, fashion designer, and the founder of Evaro Italia. A high-end Italian evening wear brand. Evaro Italia was founded in 2016 and is headquartered in Florence, Italy.

Certainly, what often sets Italian fashion design apart is it's luxury fabrics and superior craftsmanship. While EVARO ITALIA didn't reinvent the wheel as far as avant garde design goes, neither did it intend to. In fact, this brand is a celebration of those luxury fabrics, superior craftsmanship, and classic tasteful design. Furthermore, often at fashion weeks we are so geared up to see the latest thing that we miss great classic design. In this case, I didn't miss the sophisticated, elegant design of EVARO ITALIA .

EVARO ITALIA ON THE RUNWAY

First to hit the runway is a long black and red formal sheer gown that flowed and moved with both elegance and grace. The color palette for this collection is controlled and red, black and silver are the whole spectrum. The silhouettes are classic with a twist, through out the collection are glimpses of skin, one sleeve dresses and seductive cut outs.  What stands out about this collection is that collection is all evening wear. Certainly, the use of sequin is prevalent in this collection other fabrics are satin and one stood out as a stunner a silver lace dress trimmed with feathers.

Overall this collection was young and fresh with a great sense of the women who would wear these special event garments. Whether you are attending a wedding or a charity gala consider a dress or gown from EVARO ITALIA.

FEELOMENA

FEELOMENA was next to present their 2020 collection, which was inspired by Kendo the martial art of Japanese Samurai. Certainly, I can't recall the number of times I have expressed that I am not a minimalist. However, more often than not I end up eating my words and endorsing another minimalist. In this case Italian fashion design is certainly enriched by the thoughtful minimal creations of Filomena Saltarelli.

Dark yet not sullen this collection flowed like a stream down the runway. The stream has some sharp stones some twists and some turns, however following it's path like destiny, natural and in harmony. In fact, the discipline that creates a Samurai  is evident in the controlled use of masculine textiles and deliberate strong silhouettes. Notably sharp cuts are juxtaposed with flowing regal robe-like dresses. All the garments adhere to the brands values of femininity, sophisticated trends and elegance to name but a few.

Certainly Salterelli's skills are evident in her innovative use of silhouette and color to create a worldly and cultivated collection.  Equally important is refined sense of glamour that set this collection as one of my personal favorites of the week.

Certainly discover the designs of Feelomena  online and find a new source of sophisticated fashion.

DAVIDE GRILLO

Working with designers from Anna Fendi to Dolce and Gabbana,Davide Grillo, founded his own brand based on the poetics of craftSmanship and uniqueness of traditional processes.

Certainly, words like romantic, ethereal and feminine come to mind when exploring the work of Davide Grillo.  In fact the worlds of classic art and mythology seem to collide with a modern young woman who desires beauty and appreciates originality.

The stage was set when classical Italian music accompanied models who appeared like young nymphs or sprites. The models wafted  down the runway like a leaf caught in a light Spring breeze.  Delicate and tender are the words that come to my mind and describe the beautifully crafted garments that Grillo presents.

The palette is soft pastel hues with white. Furthermore, the the colors work in unison with delicate fabrics like silk, satin and organza . Moreover a light print appears on a white dress like a soft pencil line. Certainly the collection hits all the notes for a romantic vision of dressing. Take the idea of a dress with a bias ruffle organza, which hits all points of a romantic waif like vision .
