OUT AND ABOUT JULY
Out and About July is the second post in this feature. Darling's July is usually a quiet month , however I was kept busy with a number of events. Whenever summer arrives I love to get outdoors into the fresh air and sunshine. While this has been an extremely difficult year, I'm glad to report to you all my darling Angelo is recovering. Sometimes something good can come out of something bad. In fact one of my biggest gains during this horrible time, has been the awareness of gratitude and my new found lust for life. Therefore I've been stepping out from shadows and coming back to life with more zeal and interest. Furthermore I've chosen to share some of these great experiences here.
OUT AND ABOUT JULY
"WHO AM I"
My dear friend Myriam Callot invited me to an event in a warehouse space on Venables Street, Vancouver, Canada July 10th. Since my intention is always to put across a positive story, I was delighted to attend this incredible event. Upon arriving I was introduced to our hostess for the evening Adhel Arop. Adhel is a striking tall slender black model with a smile that lights up the room. First impressions are often formed by what we see, and in this case a great first impression was followed by even stronger second impression. Adhel Arop is a talented, expressive and soulful young artist.
"Who Am I " is a documentary film created by Adhel Arop. Since the time Adhel won the Telus Story Hive grant in 2018 she has worked tirelessly to produce her documentary "Who Am I".
"Who Am I" is the story of a young woman coming of age in a country (Canada) , she arrived at years before as a refugee. While this is Adhel's story it is also the story of a mother and a daughter. This film of self discovery reconciles generational trauma, as a young woman explores, researches and relives her mothers past as a child soldier in South Sudan. Emotional , powerful and hopeful this film is a must see.
We as an audience were treated to an event of poetry, dance, song, film and most importantly family and family bonds.

CHRIS BOYD EXHIBITION
While I write predominantly about fashion, I am also very interested in all the arts. I have a degree in art history and often write critiques of art shows. In fact , I have attended several art exhibits recently put on by promoter and event planner Vernard Lg Goud owner at Luvngrace Events & PR. The latest event was the exhibit of recent work by artist Chris Boyd at the Vancouver Club.
The following is from the exhibition pamphlet.
Chris Boyd is Canadian abstract artist born and raised in Vancouver B.C. He was educated at Emily Carr University and The Art Institute of Vancouver. His body of work is eclectic even in the abstract world working exclusively acryic on canvas. Displaying many different facades tempered with guile,
A personal imbued revelation is inevitably channeled from beyond... as many different tones and moods are otherworldly imagined - but coloring all of the work fully and completely is each pieces' attached narrative, and the prescient implications that it elicits. Chris' influences range from the mystical to the corporeal ideologies of Philip Guston, Willem de Kooning, Clyfford Still and Nick Stewart Hoyle, but he started out by painting what he was always deeply interested in, true emotion through justified image, color and lyrical inference. He discovered his affinity for all the arts early but pursued a career in all forms of expression, always wondering if the latest pursuit was most suited to satisfy his artistic needs.
OUT AND ABOUT
Whenever I attend an exhibit I not only like to find out as much about the artist as possible , I also enjoy meeting the artist. Therefore, I was pleased to meet Chris Boyd and exchange some words. I understand that this was his first exhibit and I encouraged him to continue painting and exploring his idea's.
The works exhibited were all abstract paintings , with titles that lead the viewer to see the work through the artists eyes. One of the works that stood out was a large canvas in bright red and yellow with a black background. The colours are pure tones and clash in away that creates an energy, and a chaotic feel. Harsh strong lines create a sense of movement and energy.
We had a great evening exploring the art, exchanging idea's and enjoying the company of a diverse crowd . Thank-you to Vernard Lg Goud for another great evening.

THE DEIGHTON CUP
Another event that I attended in July was the Deighton Cup at Hastings Park Vancouver. This event is a day at the horse races and is promoted as a fashion event. While we were not at the Royal Ascot , the ladies and gentlemen turned it out. In fact the crowd was decked out in there finery , hats, bow ties, ascots and fancy dresses. There was a fashion stakes were members of the crowd entered to be judged the best dressed.
Overall it was a fun day, however the events could have been better organized. However the group I attended with all had a great day. Special thanks to Frankie Shui for some great photo's.

KAPADE
I was excited to receive an invitation from my friend Marilyn R. Wilson to attend an evening of wine, cheese and fashion at KAPADE , a boutique on West Hastings, Vancouver.
Marilyn is a writer and an amazing woman who has been helping me so much as I have started my new career. I really admire Marilyn's sense of style and her knowledge of fashion , so I was thrilled to attend. We had a great evening and I am so delighted that I went.
Our hostess was boutique owner and jewelry designer Vaneesha Soni. I loved both the clothing and the jewelry displayed in the shop. Vaneesha has a curated shop, what I mean by this is, she has carefully brought together an array of European designers that create a boutique that has a definite theme of confident minimal style. Along with her incredible jewelry , the clothes come from a similar philosophy, combining minimalism with creative details and some bold surprises. I encourage any woman in the market for some unique clothing and jewelry to visit KAPDE AT 440 West Hastings , Vancouver.
