VANCOUVER FASHION WEEK S/S 2021
Jae Esmane was one designer who showed their collections at Vancouver Fashion Week S/S 2021. The virtual presentation of VFW S/S 2021 was a limited affair, only presenting seven designers in a live broadcast and a series of video presentations from another group of International designers.
JAE ESMANE
Jae Esmane is a Fashion designer currently based in Vancouver, BC Canada. Jae grew up in the Philippines in a little beach province called Zambales. He moved to Manila at 17 to attend university to study Architecture. After a year, Jae realized how much of a hands-on creative learner he is and further moved to Makati City to study Fashion Design and Marketing Associate at the School of Fashion and the Arts.
In 2015, Jae moved to Canada to further pursue his education and career in fashion and finished the 2-year diploma in Fashion Design at Visual College of Arts and Design in Vancouver, BC. ; Taken from the Jae Esmane.
JAE ESMANE S/S 2021
Jae Esmane presents a limited collection of six outfits made up of mix and match pieces, three ensembles for women, and three for men. However, as is the move in the fashion world, these garments are not gender-specific. Jae describes himself as a tailor first and a designer second. While this collection is not bountiful on tailoring, it has structure. What is in this collection are looks with flare and a young fresh street style vibe. Short pants reminiscent of culottes, trousers, turtlenecks, and crop tops give the individualism associated with street style. Crisp, clean silhouettes give this collection an uncluttered and orderly nature.
The collection is entitled Destination Nowhere. During the current pandemic, Jae Esmane describes a lean toward dark elements arising in his designs. However, an eventual resurrection to a hopeful and optimistic point of view won out. It is this optimism that I see in this mini collection.
The standout pieces are a red camouflage jacket and short set worn by a male model but equally unisex. The look is with a white crop top. This coordinated look is bold and contemporary.
A green camouflage dress has a military aura, which is an overall impression of the collection. A striped scarf and cummerbund add a color. Overall, this collection is like an amuse-bouche, whetting the appetite for more.

IN CONCLUSION
The concise collection presented by Jae Esmane is an example of how a designer can build some excitement for future works. I've seen the work of Jae Esmane presented at Vancouver Fashion Week before and had the same longing to see more. This is how a new designer builds a brand. I look forward to seeing more from this young designer.
