HAZI HAUS SHONE BRIGHTLY AT VANCOUVER FASHION WEEK

Hazi Haus shone brightly at the Vancouver Fashion Week S/S 2025 opening. The first evening, entitled Alex In Wonderland, was dedicated to Alex S YU's 10th anniversary. The presenters were a diverse array of local and international designers associated with and mentored by Alex S Yu. Lexi Chang, the Hazi Haus  designer, is a protégé of Alex S Yu.

LEXI CHANG- BIOGRAPHY

Immersed in a world of textiles and garments from a young age, Chang's love for fashion was fostered by her father, a seasoned professional in the Taiwan textile industry since the early 80s. Exposure to the mesmerizing artistry and craftsmanship of raw materials to wearable art became integral to her childhood. Today, Chang channels this early influence in her designs, paying homage to her roots and blending her passion for textiles with her unique experience and vision for sustainable and functional fashion. Bold and visually striking. She is dedicated to innovative design through thoughtful experimentation. Chang is enamoured with creating garments from shapes and forms in the natural world and challenging traditional conventions. The Taiwanese-born and Canadian-raised Chang is eager to design, build, and share her narrative—a biographical note from the Vancouver Fashion Week website.

A REVIEW

My last review of Hazi Haus's premiere collection concluded with me saying I could not wait to see what designer Lexi Chang would show us next. Was it worth the wait? I am happy to report that the vibes of her first collection continued, all in a slightly different direction. It was a dark and cloudy day in downtown Vancouver for the opening of VFW, but the sunshine of a bright spring day shone on the runway.

For her second collection, Juvenescence Thalia. Lexi Chang is bold in her choices. While she is influenced and inspired by Alex S. Yu's unabashedly girlish style, she has a unique vision. The offbeat quirkiness of her clothes felt particularly potent in this collection. Possibly, it was the pastel palette, but this collection was lighter and called forth a lively, carefree persona. This Hazi Haus girl has a skip in her step. The Juvenescence of the collection's title was amply evident in the youthful nature of the garments; perhaps a longing to return to the safety of childhood, which seems to be a trend for Gen Z.

Few silhouettes are more girlie than a short A-line mini skirt. The designer not only perfected that look but also offered a variety of skirts, including high-low, an asymmetrical sarong and a fun bubble. A pair of youthful bloomers and lace bell-bottom trousers show the designer's affinity for various shapes. A love of fabric is reflected in a tweedy dress, a boucle Chanel-like jacket, and crocheted bralette tops, adding texture and variety. A plaid adds some pattern, and there was lace and ruffles, but not to excess; the clothes hadn't softened so much to lose their edgy vibe from the first collection.

The spring colour palette in soft pastels evoked a dreamy atmosphere. This spring/summer collection shone brightly. The addition of some denim made the perfect selection for this fun, daring client, who will love these clothes. Lexi Chang expresses feminity on her terms, and the results are a unique expression of youthful vitality and expressive young womanhood.

IN CONCLUSION

This is the first article from Vancouver Fashion Week S/S 2025. Indeed, if you attended VFW, you saw me in all my splendour, sitting in the front row. The dressing up and photos are certainly part of the fashion week experience. Us fashionistas love seeing and being seen, sharing every image on socials. However, when the auditorium goes dark and the runway lights up, the actual event begins. We are here to see the fashion collections and support the international, national and local designers who will show over the six-day event.
On this page, I will cover the designer's work; not all will be covered. However, I will attempt to give an overview based on their innovation, impact, and relevance to the current fashion landscape. I may be critical, but I am never cruel. Enjoy my labour of love here, and please share it with other fashion lovers, industry professionals, and the many fashion students who will be the fashion industry's future.

CIAO, FOR NOW, J. ANDREW JACKSON
