GREENERY NAMED COLOR OF THE YEAR

Greenery named  color of the year.

Every year since 2000 the Color company Patone  names a color of the year. Patone did not break with tradition and named "GREENERYthe color of the year for 2017.

The colour, name greenery is described by Pantone as a "tangy yellow-green" often seen in foliage.

"Greenery is a tangy yellow-green that speaks to our need to explore, experiment and reinvent," said Pantone

"Illustrative of flourishing foliage, the fertile attributes of Greenery signals one to take a deep breath and reinvigorate."

Greenery – or Pantone 15-0343 – was already mentioned in the institute's top color's in fashion released in September 2016.

HOW PANTONE CHOOSE GREENERY

To determine which shade will stand out as the defining color each year, Pantone conducts a trend analysis across various fields of design.Patone also examines socio-economic trends and shifts across the globe.
The political climate is just one of many factors Pantone looks at when determining the Color of the Year .Therefore it's a factor that feels particularly relevant given the general vibe of uncertainty about our political future. "The impact of the global political environment  certainly plays into the choice," Laurie Pressman, of the Pantone Color Institute.

The chosen hue of the year is a "color snapshot of a particular moment in time" .  Therefore the hue in question becomes a sort of microcosm for the current state of the world.

For 2017, Pantone sees a "yearning for community, unity, and reassurance," according to Pressman. Greenery's connections to vegetation can be interpreted as symbolic, since plants regrow and regenerate every year after the winter. "We see the 2017 selection of Greenery as a natural evolution from the Pantone Color of the Year 2016,".The 2016 choice of Rose Quartz and Serenity signaled a need for harmony within chaos. Greenery points to a desire to connect with our roots in nature, in an effort to reinvent ourselves.

"GREENERY" IN DESIGN

When I was a design student at University I had a professor who taught me costume  design and I can still hear his voice " Darling you can't go wrong with color combinations as long as they can be found in nature." Truer words were never spoken. The color greenery can easily be used as a neutral , as it is nature. Therefore you can match this color with almost any other. Most of all nature doesn't make color mistakes and green shades are the color of foliage that goes with anything.

Since Patones anouncement  we have already spotted this optimistic color on the runways: Greenery can be easily teamed with neutral hues , but it is also happily combined with red, pink and soft blue . The gallery below shows some of the first uses of this exciting color for 2017. In addition you can expect to see shades of green throughout 2017.
