GLAZE KOHL BRINGS VINTAGE INSPIRATION TO VANCOUVER FASHION WEEK

GLAZE KOHL INSPIRED BY VINTAGE

Darling's it's a part of my DNA to love vintage. Since, I was a young child I loved to watch old Hollywood movies. In fact, during my teenage years I would set an alarm to wake me up in the middle of the night to see a classic Hollywood film. While I loved the movies, I loved the costumes most of all. Followers of this blog are well aware of the many posts that explore vintage inspired clothing. Therefore, when I was researching what designers would present at Vancouver Fashion Week I delighted to see Glaze Kohl was presenting. I immediately sent them a message hoping to meet them. Who are Glaze Kohl, this is taken from Vancouver Fashion Week.

MICHIKO UEDA – Founder of “GLAZE KOHL” brand (launched in 2018 Fall / Winter) .
She ran a vintage store in Osaka, Japan from 1997 and started the production of the brand in 2018.

Ueda has over 20 years of experience as a buyer and a proprietor of a vintage clothing store. Her encounters with many wonderful fashions, and styles have been the influence in creating "GLAZE KOHL."
Her experience, physically handling high-quality garments of different eras has instilled in her a sense for infusing fine details in creating new styles.

GLAZE KOHL GLAMOROUS, REFINED AND SOPHISTICATED.

First, I have written many posts about my fashion icons from history. These include Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn, and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. What these three ladies have in common is a refined, sophisticated glamour. Furthermore that's why I mention them here. The "Second Collection" by Glaze Kohl has all these same elements. While Michiko Ueda has certainly been influenced by the history of fashion, she creates pieces that are fresh and modern. Michiko has also captured the elegance, glamour and sophistication of the past and transported it to the present. Furthermore, the inspiration of the late forties and early fifties appears to be filtered through the Japanese aesthetic.

While studying art history at university I came across this concept.

(description from Wikipedia)

The Japanese aesthetic is a set of ancient ideals that include wabi (transient and stark beauty), sabi (the beauty of natural patina and aging), and yūgen (profound grace and subtlety). These ideals, and others, underpin much of Japanese cultural and aesthetic norms on what is considered tasteful or beautiful. Thus, while seen as a philosophy in Western societies, the concept of aesthetics in Japan is seen as an integral part of daily life. Japanese aesthetics now encompass a variety of ideals; some of these are traditional while others are modern and sometimes influenced by other cultures.

I can see these principles at work in this marvelous collection.

 THE 2ND COLLECTION

At the present time in fashion, we have reached a pinnacle of personal style. Therefore trends are less important than expressing yourself through what you wear. While I have written on this topic before, it fits perfectly with Glaze Kohl's collection. In other words, this a collection of beautiful clothing that will serve the wearer for years to come and help build a stunning wardrobe. Significantly, there are many pieces in this collection to help in developing your own personal style.

Firstly, this is a collection inspired by the colour's of Japanese spring. Indeed, the collection uses soft hues coupled with dark  coloured neutrals in a homage to wonderfully cut clothing. While in some hands this palette could appear somber here it has an almost playful quality. Moreover, the silhouettes are strong and tailored, but with an attention payed to small feminine details. Furthermore, the beautifully constructed line is a series of separates, blouses, skirts, jackets, trousers and coats all coordinated to be interchangeable.

GLAZE KOHL - THE RUNWAY

The runway opens with a coat that has an over-sized leopard shawl collar, an exquisite detail is a pleat center back giving a glimpse of leopard. Next is a 1940's inspired blouse and skirt, the blouse has a pleated feature at the neck, again showing an acute attention to detail. In fact, it is the details that give this collection an air of sophistication.

GLAZE KOHL

A dove grey/blue jumpsuit is imbued with elegance and movement with the addition of a light airy peplum. Again details matter, with trousers that are augmented with playful, youthful suspenders. Another key point are the handsomely tailored jackets and coats. An audience favorite is a full circle skirt with crinoline, in a custard yellow with a black diamond detail .

Overall this is a collection that transmits sophistication. Moreover, this runway show took me to a private atelier show in Paris. Michiko has created a collection that has me longing for another opportunity to see her beautiful creations. I have great expectations for the future of Glaze Kohl.

GLAZE KOHL IN CONCLUSION

I did finally meet Michiko Ueda. Unfortunately we did not have a translator handy, but I was able to express how much I appreciated her collection.  What excites me most about Vancouver Fashion Week, is the chance to engage with creatives from around the globe. In a recent meeting with Jamal Abdourahman (founder and CEO Vancouver FashionWeek), he expressed his ideas on bringing International talent to Vancouver Fashion Week . Jamal said " the exchange of ideas and exposure to others helps our Canadian designers so much." Of course this is just one of the many benefits of bringing International talent. As can be seen above, Glaze Kohl is a label that celebrates women and beauty and I join them in that.

WHAT'S HOT...

Kurt Geiger is a Soho London fashion company . In fact, you may have seen the eagle motif that is a symbol for this brand. The jewel encrusted eagle is the closure on Kurt Geiger bags.

Well the other day I was having coffee with a new friend and colleague , and after our coffee meeting we walked thru Nordstrom . Angela( my new friend ) had her eye on a handbag, she had previously seen. We looked around the bags and there her new bag was, a cute Kurt Geiger rainbow colored bag. I was unfamiliar with the brand, and instantly fell in love with a number of the fun, and stylish  bags. A young store clerk helped us and told us that they only brought  a couple of each bag. Then it hit me what a great item to bring to you today. These bags are cute, fun and have a great price point. Click on the image to order what's hot.
